The St. Malo Warriors started their championship defense on Friday night against the very same team they beat in the final in the Beausejour Comets.
Beausejour would strike early on the powerplay when Braeden Clark (Ticknor, Dancyt) scored to give Beausejour the 1-0 lead.
With only 8 seconds left in the first the Comets would add their second of the period thanks to Braeden Clark (Fiebelkorn, Ewasko).
In the third after a back in forth period Beausejour would score another powerplay goal thanks to Clint Thomas (Leeson, Ticknor) to make it 3-0 Comets.
Early in the third Beausejour would add yet another one thanks to Cash Clarkson (Gaffray, Liske) to make it 4-0.
The Warriors would break the shutout bid in the middle of the third when Kaden Rioux (Worley, Johnson) found his first of the season.
Beausejour would add a late period goal by Lavery Melsted to make it a 5-1 final.
St. Malo now heads to Arborg on Friday night looking for their first win of the season.
